Registering Your Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS)

First things first.

The first thing I did when I bought my DJI Phantom 4, even before reading the instruction manual, or devouring YouTube videos on how to fly this beautiful drone, was to register this drone to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). According to the FAA ;

“Anyone who owns a small unmanned aircraft that weighs more than 0.55 lbs. (250g) and less than 55 lbs. (25kg) must register with the Federal Aviation Administration’s UAS registry before they fly outdoors. People who do not register could face civil and criminal penalties.”

This seems daunting at first, however it is very simple and is streamlined via online! It costs $ 5.00 per aircraft and will cost you approximately 5 minutes of your time. Please click register, to register your sUAS.

Once registered, print your certificate or have it readily available (via phone/ tablet) as proof of evidence for any authority, government officials or curious fellow who may ask for it. Also, attached your UAS Certificate number to your drone. I personally taped my number to my drone.

The one thing I’ve learned so far with my UAS is that it is to be better safe than sorry!
